Apana Vata – Vital Elimination Energy

Apana vata is the downward moving energy that governs the important process of removing waste products from our bodies and reproduction. Apana vata is located in the lower abdominal pelvic area and is responsible for defecation, urination, menstruation, ovulation, ejaculation, and childbirth. When apana vata is healthy we experience regular healthy elimination of stool, urine, and menstrual blood, as well as natural conception and birth.

When apana vata is aggravated and our elimination becomes weak we experience disorders of the bladder, pelvis, and colon, which contributes to weakening the immune system. When apana is out of balance we experience irregularities like constipation, urinary retention, scanty menstrual cycle, and infertility. If there is diminished, excess, premature, or delayed elimination then apana is considered weak because it lacks the ability to hold and control the outward movement. Pain that is located in the lower back, thighs or knees is also associated with an aggravated apana vata.

Supporting and Balancing Apana Vata

Anulomana is an herbal formula that helps improve the natural downward movement of waste products and ama. Anulomana herbal formulas help improve digestion and metabolism by increasing the liquidity and mobility of food and waste products. Returning apana vata back to its normal or balanced state requires an Ayurvedic vata diet, lifestyle, and herbal protocol. When the correct herbal dosage is taken at the correct time of day the results can be quite remarkable. Anulomana herbal products help release obstructions, promote the downward movement of waste products, and improving the digestive process of all doshas.

Vata Anulomana Products help promote vata dosha in its correct downward movement. Gandharvahastadi oil is good for typical vata prakruti with vata related conditions. While Gandharvahastadi kashayam is also vata anulomana and is useful for kapha prakruti with vata related conditions.

Ayurveda recognizes sub-doshas within the three main doshas (vata, pitta, kapha). These sub-doshas manage specific functions in the body and mind. Similar to the main doshas, they can become imbalanced. Sadhaka Pitta, a sub-dosha of pitta, acts as a bridge connecting the heart and mind.
